DIRECTOR OF MISSION AND JUSTICE

We would like to share with you some exciting news.

The new Director of Mission and Justice Good Shepherd ANZ is Michael Yore.

Michael Yore has worked within Good Shepherd for 20 years.  In his role as CEO of Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service, Michael has shown an impressive ability to implement Good Shepherd vision and mission, social justice and partnership.  He has been board member of Good Shepherd Social Justice and Life & Vision.  His addresses to the Sisters’ Congregational Chapter in Angers, France in 2003 and to the Partnership Gathering in Malaysia in 2008 were viewed as ground-breaking, in posing a challenge to Good Shepherd contemporary people based on the core message and values of Mary Euphrasia.  Michael demonstrates high level leadership and management abilities.

Michael will commence in his new position at a date soon to be determined.  One of his priorities is completing a full succession process at Good Shepherd Youth and Family Services.  In the meantime, Michael will be available to participate in further discussions relating to the GSANZ strategic plan and the work and structure of the Division of Mission and Justice.

We are delighted to be able to announce this important step in the development of Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand.  As previously announced, the Boards of Good Shepherd Life & Vision and Social Justice conclude their work on 30 June 2009.

Board members have served these organizations with passion, skill and enormous commitment, sometimes over many years, and we extend gratitude to every person involved.  Special thanks to Kay McGrath and Peter McNamara, current Board Chairs.  The fine work of the boards, and the staff who report to them, has enabled Good Shepherd to move to the next phase of development in these vital areas.

Background Information

Michael was directly approached to apply for this position.  In light of the calibre of his leadership over many years, his application and interview, the GSANZ Board members and CEO unanimously endorsed Michael’s appointment.  The pros and cons of direct appointment versus recruitment were considered, but in the end it was felt that a process which involved inviting people to make application for a position for which there was a uniquely qualified candidate would be less than honest.   For these reasons a direct appointment process was endorsed.

The Board, CEO and Provincialate Leadership Team congratulate Michael and look forward to his ongoing contribution to Good Shepherd in this new and challenging role.
