General Concerns...
Voiced by GSYFS workers include:
- HOMELESSNESS on the increase
- DRUG PROBLEMS (escalating heroin use)
- DEPRESSION & MENTAL ILLNESS on the rise
- FAMILIES in FINANCIAL CRISIS
- DECREASED FUNDING for essential services
- DECREASED FUNDING for 'emergency relief'
Issues of Concern...
For Rosemount (NSW), currently focus around the rise in drug
use of young people attending the agency. This is of particular concern
as young people find it increasingly difficult to recognise the difference
between recreational use and the development of a habit. Staff are trying
to address the issue from a holistic outlook by working closely with
the young people and other agencies in the area.
The major problems for Rosemount continue to change and the service
tries to keep abreast of these in order to deliver a meaningful service.
Issues of Concern...
For St Clare's (WA), include the rising number of students who
have a history of substance abuse and who find it very difficult to
overcome their growing addiction. Also on the increase are referrals
for students suffering from psychiatric disorders. St Clare's limits
such placements in order to maintain a general atmosphere of normalcy.
